I have a Primus 981 lantern, today when I started cleaning it I saw the nipple and the needle are missing. What kind of needle and nipple can I use for this lantern? The same as a 991 Lantern? Best regards, Johan
I have used 991 parts on a 981, and they fit. There are small differences, but hardly noticeable. The needle (6347) for the 991 is a bit thinner than the one meant for the 981 (6422) It's only differ a tenth of a millimeter (0.14 vs 0.15), but perhaps it suggest that the jet for the 991 might be a tad bit smaller than the one meant for the 981, but I doubt it. Threads are the same on both jets and needles respectively, but sometimes the 991 needle need more force to be screwed onto a 981 rod, but that might have been coincidence at the moment I tried. So yes; if you think it's easier to get 991 parts, you can use them.
Thank you, Christer. I have 991 parts here, needles and nipples, so I'll try them when the lantern is cleaned. I got the old steel needles and the newer type needles, I'll try both to see wich one fits the best.
Of course. A slip of the "tongue", sort of... Johan! Since you already got the 991 parts, just go for it. I'm sure it will work. Otherwise let me know, and I can send you the correct parts, but it really shouldn't be any need for that.
