    G,,day
i found this the other week .
surprised with the condition , and with an original globe ,i think .
the bail was rusty , ceramic paint and silicon tube .
i have fitted a modern replacement globe for using .i forgot it is dated may 1955 .
and the globe it came with is on the righthand of the photo

    Great, Kerry!

As discussed earlier, I'm still on the hunt for one of these.

The globe (chimney) that came with your 237 is the same as the one that came with my 236 (in the Reference Library).

    Cheers

    Tony

Very nice, Kerry! Did you notice that the bulge on the globe is offset to the top? I see that it has a 249 spirit cup fitted. The 237 is still my favourite Coleman lantern.

Aren't these two lanterns the kero and gasoline (Coleman fuel, naphtha) versions of each other? Similarly the 200 / 201 lanterns. Without checking, I think (note, think!) the higher number is the kerosene version... :-k

    Yes, David

The 236 is gasoline and the 237 is kerosene.

The thing about the globe (chimney) is that some come with an "even" (top and bottom) globe, but some come with a globe that's not symmetrical top to bottom.

    Cheers

    Tony

Just to muddy the waters, my 1948 model has on its collar:
    MODEL 237 EMPIRE
    FOR KEROSENE OR GASOLINE
    GENERATOR MUST BE PRE-HEATED

    in 3 languages.

    Phil, you are correct.

Neil McCrae (Macburner) has various 237 versions listed as "Empire" for kerosene/gasoline in his "Pressure Lamp Catalogue". The 236 is "gasoline".

    Cheers

I've been working with Dmacp on CCF on a survey of 237's in the form of a spreadsheet itemizing about 20 different features such as vent type, colour, pump cap, frame base plate, etc. for US and Canadian models. If anyone is willing to fill in the form listing these features of their 237's and then share in the results of the survey please pm me. The statistical groupings of features by age and country should prove very interesting.
