Very nice, Tommi. Can you tell if the globe is an original (very rare) or perhaps one of these later replicas that has been made in Taiwan?
Yes, I also got poor knowledge: Can you share if the globe is an original (very rare) or perhaps one of these later replicas that has been made which country? Please. and thanks.
Tommi, I was hoping that you knew if the globe was a replica or not. I only got original globes, but I know that some has bought the new replicas recently. It would be nice if they also had an original one and could examine how to be able to tell the difference. Perhaps post the two different versions in the Repro corner.
Hi all I don't have an original "melon style" globe, only a replica. The originals are damned rare. I do have some plain ones but it is a bit hard to compare the two of them. The top plates has also been reproduced and they are of very good craftmanship. But it is possible to part an original from a replica by the tiny lines that shows on the new ones as they are turned in a lathe while the original are pressed in a mould. Bo
If you light the 992 up with the globe, you might soon learn if it is a replica or not. From earlier information the replicas dont withstand heat very well, due to difficulties getting the heat resistant glass compound right, but of course the replicas may have been improved. Does anyone have more information? The new 992 hats do have circular lines as opposed to the old ones. The old style were made with a pressure lathe by hand. The replica top hats were made with a modern CNC lathe as far as I know. The vents are slightly more rugged as well.
Interesting discussion... Guys, I'm not able to say whether the globe is a replica or not. Have to say that prior to this dialogue I wasn't even aware that there were/are replica globes available for such lamps. However, in practice both scenarios are possible. Need to investigate this bit further. Can anyone tell since when the replicas became available? That info could help a bit to narrow down the scenario whether the globe has been replaced after certain year.
As far as I know, there wasn't any reproductions of these until pretty much exactly one year ago when they started to make them in Taiwan, as I said above. Together with the often sought top Bo mentions. (I'm glad that there is a possibility to part those as Bo describes.)
Dear Christer Carlsson. As like you said: make them in Taiwan, and I also get ☝ in good conditions. Taiwan = good =
Hi, Having replica globes even available for this lamp model was new info to me. Anyway, I had to check it and I went back to the seller asking more info and background about the lamp. I got a confirmation that the only parts changed to this lamp were mantle(s) and pump leather. -t
