I rescued this Tilly lamp from my mother's garage - it must have belonged to my father and has been hidden away for several years. The lamp seems intact - the mantle part has disintegrated though. There is some rust, especially on the top part. I would like to clean it up and get it back into working order - though cosmetics is less important to me than function. Am I right in thinking it is a BR49?
Welcome, What you have, I believe, is a Tilley X246B, the BR's have straight legs. There should be a date stamp underneath the tank, the three numbers being the month and year of manufacture. Lots of information among these pages on how to get your lamp burning bright.
Many thanks for your quick reply. Now I have a proper identification I'm sure I will bring the lamp back to life. I'm sure my Tilly will have a second life helping out with camping trips/power cuts/zombie apocalypse! It is quite beautiful but seems very robust, and would have probably ended up in a skip had I not rescued it.
Welcome ...... Hope this is the first of many ........ Coz the bug may get ya ........ Lots of knowledge in this forum. Good luck
The instruction leaflet would seem to be for a different lamp, though the instructions for lighting are the same. You appear to have an X246B but the instructions refer to the earlier model, X246. Note the different frame design and the absence of a pressure indicator on your lamp. It should be easy to restore to working order, and very useful for power cuts.
Welcome, before you know it you will have a shred full of lamps! I assume you know Tilley are still in business? All parts should still be available
