Found a unusal large burner head of what ? Its the one on the right side its larger than the earlier one on the left Dia is 40mm and its missing the air intake cover and top .Main ferrule fits the tilley gennie also . Bob
What is the think on the right The one on the left it an early tilley burner ,but what's that thing on the right ,looks very much like a tilley piece of kit and of a rad but what ?? Any ideas ,,
Thats my tilley part but I need a better diagram of whats missing etc please or picture of complete burner etc .There is none in tilley section of that burner . Bob
I have never seen anything like it before but look like it should have something on top if you look close at the top you can see a line where something sat on there might be like a MANTLE ?? With the holes on top might work the same way as a normal burner but upside down try and lite it and see if it works ? What's the worse that can happen ? Lol
What does the underneath look like ? Could those holes be the air intake instead of the side air tube as on later models ?
running with new gennie . Looking at burner holes look a bit worn etc . Also not sure of brass ferrule gap when screwed home inside. Bob
Very nice to see it going Bob. Does it sound any different to other burners ? Did you give it 2 pre-heats ? Love to know what it came off.
Had to give it 2 preheats to get it going being so large and all brass.Seems to burn outside the asbestos mantle quite a bit. Is this a rare burner head ? Any answers on this burner head please or photos of another one complete or paper work . Bob
I don't remember ever seeing another of these and there is certainly no paper I am aware of showing this burner in any detail other than the one illustration I posted earlier. Seems there are two varieties as well becaus the illustration shows the casting visible at the top but this one is cased in with that upper ring of air intake holes. It has to be a rare thing. ::Neil::
Two pre-heats are often the norm with Radiators, and a chimney helps too. A lot of flame on that one, but I am comparing it to the only other Radiator I have used - mine - a slightly later one.
Just a update on burner . When running in normal upright position wasn't burning properly due to hot gasses being sucked in air holes in top .Tilted complete lamp while running to 45 degrees and asbestos mantle glowed a nice red straight away ,so have to make a air intake like the later models see how that goes .will keep you informed of progress etc . Bob
Bob I was wondering about the lighter coloured brass at the top on your photos of it burning and thought something might be missing. Do you think it had a cap or breather of some sort? Tony
The Advertisement that Macburner posted looks like there is a cylindrical piece that tapers to a point on the top of the burner.
Looking at most of the different burner heads I have here,I've would say its the next model after the cast iron versions .They properly found it to bulky and changed it to the next variation lot of brass flat top ones, Even those ones vari in dia and shape just small things when side by side you notice these things .Then the more modern ones we know of today . Bob
Hi, Sorry this is late, but did you manage to sort out an air tube for this unusual burner at all? Does it come apart any more ? Great when things like this turn up to throw new light on old subjects! Regards pb
