    Hello everyone

This is one of my Coleman 243A's that i have, the other one being older and with a mica globe, so i upgraded this one with a repro glass globe from Fred Kuntz, correct for the early 242. as for the dating this one is stamped 0 9 even though the zero to the left is very faint. Since the latest Coleman book states these to have been made between 1936 and 1942, this must mean Sept, 1940 or ?

This one i refurbished a little, mostly cleaning but i also re-painted the fount.

What colour blue did you use?

I have one of these to refurbish and the paint is wrecked.

That globe cannot be correct. 243 and 243A was always sold with a mica globe. Only 243B had a Pyrex and that was the 550 bulge globe as used on model 242B. The 242 straight globe was only used in the early to mid 1930s and was not available in the 1940s. The 243 range were "Economy" lanterns and made to be a cheaper alternative to the contemporary 242B lanterns. It would however have been possible to upgrade the 243A in 1941/2 by purchasing a 550 globe which Coleman did state was suitable for 243 and 243A models which at the time was the only available alternative but it was not standard to the 243 range. ::Neil::

That’s such an attractive colour and that wee lamp puts me in mind of Fred, the Homepride flour man with his bowler hat!
