Hi, Has anyone bought/used one of these vaporisers from South Korea?
I like the look of them as they could overcome some of the problems with the original ones.
    Any thoughts?

    I have one.

    It's fine.

But note: I don't seem to have all the problems that some members have with the "new" Tilley vaporisers. Maybe I'm just lucky.

    Cheers

    Hi Roy
As a result of very poor quality vapourisers bought direct from Tilley, I experimented with a kkn4602 (Korean) 5" vapouriser in my work about Tilley. ( I use this lamp quite often when BBQing. It's summer in Aussie and BBQs abound.)
I have now used 3 x 5" and 2 x 7" replacing the Tilley 606 and the 169 vapourisers. They are very well made. In every instance I have had an excellent result, and, to be able to get spare jets and prick wire attachments is a distinct bonus.
They initially cost more however when you consider that I paid full price for an unusable product from Tilley, then along with the Koean's excellent build quality and the ability to refurbish these vapourisers, I reckon that they're good value for money.
I have no hesitation in recommending these Korean (kkn4602) made vapourisers.

    Cheers
    Peter

Hi and thanks for your experiences with these vaporisers.
I have to say that the latest Tilley original I purchased did not impress me very much and another newish one has developed a leak at the base. So I have ordered one from Korea and, if it works well, will replace the vaporisers on my other Tilleys over time.

I envy you your summer - it's cold & wet here in Normandy!!

    regards

    Hi Roy

Here in Toowoomba Queensland its been quite hot, temperatures in the mid 30s centigrade. The evening are just perfect for BBQs and that quiet cold beer, you know the one with the dew running down the outside of the glass. ;)
Let us know how the Korean vaporiser works, as I said earlier, they are working well for me.
Now back to another beer ....

    Cheers

    Peter

Hi, I received a new vaporiser from Korea but, on opening, found it was not the type advertised with separate cleaning needle & removable jet, but a copy of a standard tilley vaporiser. I complained via Paypal & received a refund and no requirement to return the part, which I will try at some point to see if it better than the current Tilley version. Just be warned however that for a little over £50 you can currently expect something that looks like a £25 Tilley vaporiser!!

I have bought two of these 5" vaps for various Tilleys I have .. the quality is not consistent and the engineering lacked consistency... I was refunded for the first and... so well as fairly treated I bought another. which is fine.. it is not all tickety boo with these vapourisers I do not know if he outsources work to others ... pay your cash and take a chance .. stick with NOS if you can

    I bought 2 vaporizers here:
TILLEY VAPORISATEUR 7"/Vaporisateur Générateur | eBay not happy at all, the quality seems to be there
but they are very difficult to adjust and the jets are drilled too large.
I contacted the seller who told me, at first, that he was going to send me smaller jets and needles, but Taiwan was under lock down at that time. He could not move for transport
Taiwan has since been released, I sent back an email to remind him of his promise, but I have no answer, but he has started selling again on Ebay
do not buy from this seller.

I agree , I had the same experience , the brass jets are too large and the engineering quality is
not right and up to the mark. I emailed him just like you and was met with the stonewall of silence.

    Bon chance mon ami ...bientot

I can add good experiences with the ones from kkn4602 as recommended by friends in Aus.
I won't buy any more "genuine" ones. I will definitely buy more of these if the need ever arises.

I've had very good luck with "older" NOS Tilley vaps, the "newer" Tilley vaps I have had no experience since I've never had any. The ones from Korea I know nothing about them. It all boils down to what you feel comfortable with and what you have had good results with before.
FYI: If you have a Tilley lantern with a pre-heater don't use a newer Tilley 169 vap, they will not allow you to fit the pre-heater over them. There is a ring around the bottom that won't let the pre-heater go far enough down the vap to connect properly.

I was considering buying a couple of these types myself, the quality of the newer vapourisers is quite poor, the older NOS ones can be rusty inside depending how they have been stored. Bit of a lottery.

Has anyone tried the vapourisers from this Taiwanese Seller: simonchantwus_gmail

I quite fancy giving them a go, particularly because they can be completely disassembled for cleaning/adjustment!

Or do I have to be the guinea pig......

I have bought the relacement ones from Tilley UK. I think the trick is to inspect them (better still use them) as soon as it/they arrives. If it is no good let them know and they will send another.
I bought two, one good, but one with the end welded on so far offset the pricker would not find the hole. I appreciate what they are trying to do, but I think they have come a little unstuck on one aspect of the manufacture.

Hate to say it but I think it's just a matter of time before Tilley does what W&B did - sell the business! It's a shame, but like they say, "all good things must come to an end"...

Tilley outsource all their parts manufacture these days and my guess would be that they've fallen into the usual trap of Far Eastern manufacture at the lowest cost. You very much get what you pay for out there.

I would further guess that it's possible whatever they're paying for vapourisers is so cheap that having a 50% failure rate is acceptable, in financial terms anyway...

I have dealt with this person and purchased a vapouriser ...5 inch Tilley vap replacement... the engineering was not up the mark , the nipple hole was too large and the flow of fuel impossible to control , whilst on paper they look good and the product arrives fairly quickly it was very unsatisfactory for any of my
Tilley lamps .... veer away and stay off course from this product ... back up and replacement email requests were ignored by him
