Here is my Gloria "Oxo Gas" finally fettled and up and running with a shade (or two). Note: I will post the "as found" photos in this thread. New mica chimney made by Fred Kuntz. Detail of the finial. Brass tank with steel bottom. Originally plated with nickel, but painted silver in this case to cover the flaked nickel. [Note: this is not the tank that came with the lantern. It is identical, but in far better condition than the original. A special thank you to @dday for the tank]. The 'coverings'. The filler/pump cap and check valve. The shade holder is larger than a Coleman, so finding a period shade is a bit of a search. In the meantime: Here is the lamp as it came: And its bits: I'll create a thread on fettling this lamp (when I sort out my photo uploading issue), but it was pretty straightforward. This is a great lamp. I have it running on 50:50 kerosene:Shellite (Shellite = coleman fuel). Not bad for a 100 year old lamp! Cheers Tony
@ROBBO55 & @JEFF JOHNSON I'm very pleased with this restoration - and I'm glad to have a burner and vapouriser that work properly. Now all I need is a shade that looks like the one posted by Neil in this thread: What have we here, then? Cheers Tony
That is a beautiful lamp, Tony! I have an identical one but the generator end is broken off in the valve body. No progress so far on the extraction an engineering shop is trying to do for me. Those turban founts were apparently made by Coleman.
@phaedrus42 I consider myself to be very lucky for two reasons: 1. Even though the tank was fairly beaten-up, the burner and generator parts were all in good nick. 2. Dan Davis provided me with an identical tank that was a in lot better condition than the one I had. I am very grateful. I am reshaping the original tank with "filler" so that it can be repainted along the lines of what you see above. When that's done, I will take the tank that Dan gave me, and have it re-nickelled. Cheers Tony
I stumbled across this lamp shade today. It looks more in keeping with the "Oxo-Gas", so I'll keep it on until I find one of the originals (if ever I do). If anyone knows what this shade came from, please let me know. Cheers Tony
@Anthony ... I meant the one with the tassels... Then there is this (courtesy of Conny over at CCF): Cheers Tony
I was asked to show this lamp without the mica chimney, with the new shade, and lit. So here goes: Inside, daylight, without flash. Inside, daylight, with flash. Cheers Tony
