This lantern doesn't seem to have been built so often, because I couldn't find so much about it on the web. In the catalog available to me no images of this lantern appear. It is very similar to the Ditmar 519: 300HK, ribbed carburetor, lantern size and shape. However, the preheater is different from the Maxim 519 built as meths cup, similarly to the Maxim 531 etc. Interesting is the embossing "Made in Germany / Fabriqué en Allemagne" on the fount. This fits the base stamp, which could well indicate a production in August 1940. The glass is apparently original (Schott & Gen. Jena, Made in Germany / Fabriqué en Allemagne), but without the typical Ditmar writing on it. As a special feature it has an air throttle for the mixing chamber and a special needle (0.3 mm dia.) for conversion to burn alcohol. The lamp has been unfired and it will probably remain so.
Hi Martin, I got Ditmar Maxim 509 few weeks ago. My 509 is steel tank and enamel bench. Now I have a question; Does the air throttle for the mixing chamber use for alcohol drive? If I use kerosene, Should I remove the air throttle? BR, YOSH
Hi Yosh, the air throttle must be removed when you intend to use the lantern with kerosene. But you must also change the jet & needle from 0.3mm to the usual 300HK jet size 0.18mm-0.2mm for paraffin/kerosene. Or you simply try to get it going with alcohol... BTW: I didn't know that the 509 was also available in steel / enamel. I've önly got the 505, 506 and 513 in steel / enamel. Could you open a new reference gallery thread with this lantern? BR, Martin K.
Hi Martin, Thank you for your answer. I have Swiss Hasag's needle for 350HK. It would be able to use for 509. But I have to get jet for kerosene...It's hard to find! Going with alcohol... Yes, I will open my 509 thread next week. Cheers, YOSH
