Hello, I recently found these 2 donut lamps marked GRECO Milano, unfortunately no information available anywhere about this manufacturer. The small one is complete, it miss the ceramic nozzle, but a common 250 nozzle fits. Globe is missing too, but a 834 globe fits perfectly. The big one is missing the reflector and so no way to hold a glass. The base rim diameter is circa 24cm, so I'm thinking that a globe for 836 would fit. Nozzle chamber is missing, I tried with a 829 one but it screws just one turn, it seems that the J tube of this lamp is half millimiter wider than a 829 one. If anyone is able to build a reflector for this lamp I'd be interested, as well give me some tips for the nozzle. For size comparison, the small one is a little taller than 834. That's why I guess it is a 200CP lamp, on jet nothing is readable, so it's my deduction. It's my deduction also the 1000CP for the big one, just because there is a 1000 stamped on its brass door, but it can easily be a 400,600,800 or whatelse. Cheers, Nicola
Hi Nicola, These are beautiful lamps! Quite interesting to see the double loop above the burner? Jaco
Hi Jaco, thanks! I don't think it's a special thing, it looks like a double loop and actually it is a double loop, but if you look at other donut lamps, like Petromax 834/5 and similar everyone has a double loop, a wider one that goes over the preheating cup to take as much heat as possible, and a smaller loop around the burner to maintain the temperature during the functioning. In this case the loops are both wide, so there isn't the smaller one around the burner. Probably, if this thing is for real a 1000CP needs high temperature to start, so both the loops go over the alcohol cup (that is huge, as you can see) to pre heat. Then, once in function, probably the heat generated by the burner is enough to reach the loops also if not as close as we usually see. What do you think? Nicola
Nice lanterns Nicola ! Are you sure the big or better huge pre heater bucket is original on the big lantern ?
Hi Wim, thanks. Yes I'm absolutely sure, it also has a bayonet fitting that is too precise to not be original. The 200 cup is screwed to the base plate instead. I found the same rotten absorbing cord inside both cups. Then, lamps were electrocuted (fortunately just with a passing wire and bulb). When I gave the first cleaning (I still have to repaint the tanks) the big one was very "clean" inside the fuel lines, so it has been probably used a few times... not enough use to justify a fix or a custom replacement of this precision. Nicola
Anyway, the big cup is just tall, as you can see in the pictures the inner border isn't tall, so you cannot put a liter of alcohol in it, also if it looks like that Just a weird design. Nicola
I do belief you but it looks as if the mantle also will be inside the "bucket". So prevent the light going sideways.
Hi Wim, I get your point, maybe looking at the photos it's hard to get the right proportions. Nozzle and its chamber are missing, but by screwing a complete nozzle of a px 829 the nozzle would be some millimiters out from the cup, like on 834 and similar... so the mantle would be completely out.
