Hi, I've seen on sale an Hasag 212, but I've never heard about this model. On the PLC book the 212 is described as a donut lamp, not as a lantern... on internet I can't find any info. Anyone can share some knoweledge about it? Thanks, Nicola
The 212 in the PLC is indeed a do nut BUT this is a number seen on an Indian lamp and I have doubts that 212 is not a HASAG model number. From the PLC:- 212 “Polar” 450 cp do nut. Marked on reflector “Gas House S. B. Delhi Nr 212 450 cp” and the Hugo Schneider logo with “POLAR”. Found in India this may be HASAG model 3 or 5 but as Hasag did not make a 500HK/450cp donut this may in fact be an Indian made copy and therefore the model number could be Gas House not HASAG. (info Virrendra Jain). This is the image I have on file. We need to see a picture of what you have discovered. ::Neil::
For what I've learned here, it looks like a pre war hasag, because the square shaped generator top... but I know many of you are sceptical about dating hasag lamps, so who knows... There is one thing that doesn't convince me. The nichel plating seems to peel off, like on steel anchor lamps. On hood and also close to the generator on the tank. Maybe this lamp is made of steel and not brass? Nicola
Nicola, there are some more "old" features than the square shaped generator top. There also is the bajonet type hood locks, the "old" filler cap and the small inner hood (same size like at the 250CP Petromax lanterns). But I would have expected a brown pricker wheel... I've never heard from a 212 before, and to my knowledge this lantern did not seem to appear in any Hasag catalogue. But who knows? Have you ever thought about a faulty stamping on the type plate? If you exchanged the "1" by a "5" it would fit the lantern perfectly without any question. BTW: I've got here another odd Hasag: a 1252. And I don't believe that this one has faulty stamping because it has that same number on the type plate and the decal on the tank. BR, Martin
Hi Martin, Yes I know about the other details, I talked about the square shaped generator just to cite one... all or most I know about hasag is what I have read in your posts :-) I will contact you for some questions about a 192? Hasag 55 table lamp and a liliput 21 I found recently. The theory about the possible error in the stamping is very fascinating and probably you are right, in the end it really looks like a 252.
Recently I also saw a 212 in Ebay listed for a while, also clearly stamped. I didn't buy it because the price seemed a bit high, and when the seller reduced the price I was not fast enough . I'm still wondering why that type doesn't appear in any known catalogue...
