Hi all, Well i couldn't resist could i, another collection spotted on ebay one evening so like a moth to a flame (or with the wise words of my dear old dad ringing in my ears, a fool and his money are soon parted!) i contacted the seller and arranged a collection for a few days time, once the excitement had abated i realized what i had agreed to, its probably only a stones throw for our American cousins but i had to travel from Portsmouth to just outside Bradford and by the time i'd finished i was just nudging a 580 mile round trip and i was knackered but in the end i was happy with what i had come home with, Here's a few pics of the better buys, including a couple of boxes of NOS Tilley globes, mostly late 171's with a half box of original 182's
Yes i think i did very well, approx 30 lamps, 6 heaters, just the one R46 though, 20 odd NOS vapourisers and quite a few other odds and sods, luckily my mate lent me his van and i needed it that's for sure!
Not sure what model but i think its a 30's - 40's Canadian Coleman with Mica panels, its not in bad condition but the framework supporting the Mica is a bit corroded but other than that it seems in fair condition.
This is what we commonly call "going ape sh.."! What luck. Great find, this should keep you busy for sometime!
Thanks Gents, yes it was mostly luck but i have been keeping an eye on the main suspect sites for goodies for a while now, yes i admit it i can't help having a sneaky peak, this is the third and biggest collection i have got my mitts on so far and even though i'm slacking and am only halfway through the second one my thoughts keep drifting back to ebay, gumtree etc, i think i may have got it bad, Still it keeps my mind off politics!! I will probably put an add up soon but let me know if anyone wants a NOS EEC Tilley globe as a spare or whatever, they won't be ebay prices that's for sure but international postage may be difficult as i don't possess a printer.
That certainly looks like a Coleman Quick Lite from the mid 1920s. When you can a few shots of the complete lamp and of the burner would be good please. I assume Boosey & Co are retailers. ::Neil::
I'll try and sort some later Neil, yes i guess they must be, https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjr76nbvbXUAhVBLVAKHUM-BmkQFggkMAA&url=http://www.boosey.com/pages/aboutus/bh_departments.asp?loc=uk&usg=AFQjCNFkh6elY-J_VX1-t-ZjCYX8zpDT6A&sig2=I7l53AuaU3V-kKIf6RsDrQ https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&r...BUcPdVdyIK2fzCiSw&sig2=ea47TQq3eLyGZ8INTPUOWg Hopefully they are just scratches Wim, its still quite a nice piece of history either way but i would like too try and light it at some point
Well i gave it a little clean and a hand polish ( i only have a Dremel but its probably best i don't get near stuff with power tools ) and it doesn't look too bad, no stress cracks that i could see just fine scratches, Its dated 26 3, is a quick lite and apart from some parts of the mica and mica frame its not in bad condition really. The petrol in the tank still smells like petrol and was under pressure so no leaks up to the shut off valve, the ball bearing moves freely in the filler cap and the mantles were in good condition so i don't think it would take much to get going. No pricker wires on these then did they block up much in use? Whats the procedure for dismantling i undid the generator but i couldn't seem to be able to slide it out?
@MG The generator (vapouriser) should just slide in and out of the hole in the burner. It might be stuck by being slightly out of shape. Look at a similar set up here: Coleman L327 (1927) Tony
Thanks, yes i thought it did but i was in a bit of a rush, i will try again another time, You made a lovely job on that lamp, the frame that holds the mica together is worse on mine, are those repro ones expensive? Not sure what i'm going to do with mine yet.
Those generators have a flare at the end which often gets pressed outwards slightly and grips in tightly. They have to be teased out but it will lift up and out. ::Neil::
Hopefully the generator will be in working order. If it isn't, have a look at this post about bringing Q99's back to life. Restoring Q99's & safe starting procedure for Quick-Lites Henry.
Thanks Henry, Much appreciated sir, a safe starting procedure is exactly the information i need, i expect i will be outside for this one just in case!
