A fine lantern. but it is not a Schatz lantern but an M. Aschwanden Lantern. I had the privilege of meeting late Mr. Aschwanden several years ago at one of the Lake Lungern meetings in Switzerland. Mr. Aschwanden was an employee of Mr. Schatz who continued the business for a number of years. You will find an image which was taken at Mr. M. Aschwanden's 80th birthday in Switzerland (2006) over there: http://forum.hytta.de/read.php?1,29422,29422,quote=1 . Erik
Hi Erik, I've seen the link you have posted... can you tell something about that Hasag541 posted in the discussion? Did Mr. Aschwanden made a production of these hasag lamps on the model of Ditmar 541 or that one is a one piece only? Thanks, Nicola
As you found out it, the 541 was made from parts of a brass Dietz lantern and a 551. Ernst Frei did that beautiful job. Erik
M. Aschwanden didn't make or bought lamp parts. I thought even E. Schatz didn't. After the war they bought a stockpile of Hasag lamps and parts and made lanterns, mainly for the swiss army. M. Aschwanden did try to let parts made but it was way to expensive.
Great find. Even an Aschwanden lantern. I own two Eugen Schatz lanterns. Really like then. But if You usw then with gasoline, pls ne careful and check thoroughly The pump valve. Sometimes they leak. Regards Willi
