Took a bit of a punt and bought this today. Think it may be an optimus 300. Not sure as i know more about tilleys and vapalux. If anyone knows if they are steel or brass that would be helpful . Thanks for info. Paul.
Everything except for the collar looks right and if the parts are correct then it should be from the middle of the 30's or just before. The collar could be a home made repair. From the factory they were nickel plated brass.
That collar looks to be quite a neat repair. Maybe it's a collar from another lantern, but not anything I recognise. I can't tell what's under the dark colour, but I suspect that the nickel plating has been removed at some stage. Otherwise everything is there and it should be easy to get working.
I'll have a go at cleaning it up at some point. It's in the queue of lanterns that are awaiting attention
@swiss-paul They run on kerosene (paraffin); and they are excellent lanterns and burn very brightly. Mine (a later model) is here: Optimus 300 (mid-1940s) Make sure you get the vapouriser and its Preston loop clean. There is some discussion of this here: Optimus 300 help needed Cheers Tony
