Hi all, Action in my new home ! Very good lamp with original glass. Thank for watching ! Regards, Titoo.
Hi Titoo, congratulations to that nice lantern. I have the same marked with 52A here (posted already here in the gallery) and it's working like a charrm. I like those old Hasags. BR, Martin
Hi Wim Ve, It's very good lantern No marking HS. The Schott Jena Glass stamped F Racek and Hasag. Thank for all comment
Hi folks I have a Hasag 51A with the NRV right and left hand thread (check valve ) Had to use drill and easy out now I am looking for another valve rare as hens teeth I am told anyone know of a substitute I can use ??? Regards Michael
Hi Michael, to my knowledge a Petromax pump valve (or similar: Geniol, Ditmar, Optimus) should fit. The valve thread should be M8 x 0.75mm. Only the pip cap sometimes have left hand threads (e.g. @ Hasag & Ditmar). If I remove them I always try to loosen by gently turning both ways, so I haven't broken one so far. BR, Martin K.
Sorry, I was in error! I just went to my spare parts box and compared the threads: There seems to be no suitable replacement for these old Hasag 51 valves. Maybe you can try with a Mewa as a spare parts donor, but they also used different threads over the time. I just measured the Hasag thread and it is like 8.75mm x 1.00mm. BR, Martin K.
Thank you Martin seems I will, as I thought, have to get one made up somewhere . I have the original valve with the top part in two bits due to the drilling out. I will be able to show the thread pitches to whom I get it made with . I will see if an early Mewa is around in the meantime thanks again regards Michael
Well it is as @Martin K. says, threads changed over time and replacement is a problem. A solution could be : de-solder the pump tube and replace the base plate with a "petromax" thread. Then you have no problems in the future. Personally I think your lantern was made by MEWA. They stamped the letters HASAG on export lanterns on request. BUT they didn't stamp the HS logo. HASAG marked lanterns or HASAG style lanterns with a number on the top nut are also made by MEWA. The number refers to an east German traffic road proof mark.
Hello Wim Thank you for that just to clear up a missed point by me It is a Hasag BAT BAT 51A I do not know if this model made for GB market is the same as to what you are referring too Regards Michael
Hi Michael, there were some pre-war 51 Hasags sold with a BAT label preferrably to serve foreign markets, like as those with the SUN label. To clarify I'd suggest that you post some photos of that lantern that would help us to identify it. Maybe you can also put it in the reference gallery later. BR, Martin
Before WW2 it is commonly assumend that Hugo Schneider made HASAG lanterns. Why would they markt it with BAT ?
According to J. Wekenmann's records the brand name "BAT" was applied for by Hugo Schneider AG in 1936 and registered under No. 495411 in 1937. I've got a few pictures of such a lantern on my PC (it was once listed on Ebay), and I'm pretty sure that it was not made in GDR since the characteristics fit more the pre-war lanterns: The brand "BAT" (once established by Stuebgen) was widely acknowledged in foreign countries. That's why I think it was taken over and used by Hugo Schneider AG for their products to be sold in foreign countries, at least in UK. That is similar to the "SUN" or "SUNFLOWER" brand intended for the American market. BR, Martin
