Hi, can somebody guess how old is this Petromax 826? I was not able to find this particular label. Sorry for bad quality of the picture, I got it from the person who tries to sell it. Thanks.
...should be somewhat "oldish", but I'm not able to date it to the 50's or even pre-war. Ask for a picture of the tank bottom: there should be either a 4-digit stamping, or a scratched number (sometimes hard to find). If there's something present that should enable dating of the lantern. BR, Martin K.
Thanks. Do you think it is possible it is a "military issue" lantern? The label seems "sober", i.e. without any fancy ornaments and decorations, and the finish seems the same dull plating as that of my 829B. Is it possible to use glass for 829 for 826? I suppose the glass for 826 would be smaller, is that correct?
Hi, looking at the Petromax writing on the fount and collar label it seems an early model, for sure before 1940, most probably mid '30. Any modern glass for Petromax 829 will fit, it is same size. This is a 300CP model. The hood top is missing. Nicola
I agree to Nicola. That lantern must be from the mid 1930's, according to the vaporizer and style of the pump lock. The plating is simply worn, those old ones didn't have a matte finish like the 1960's army models. Please beware of a cracked fount, wchich is often found at these old lanterns. Besides of the top cap and glass it seems to be complete. Good luck with your restoration! BR, Martin K.
