If you mean the stuff that is a mix of hydrocarbons and oxygenated solvents used for cleaning guns and hoses, I wouldn't use it. I've never heard anyone else use it either.

What makes you think it would work properly?

Was just thinking about it and is smells pretty inflammable! Plus it seemed cheap for such a high octane solvent really.
Might be ok for cleaning old fuel lacquer off if notthing else?
    Cheers Nick

Yes, you can use panel wipe {solvent based), a lot cheaper than the genuine artical

I picked up some genuine Coleman fuel today but will order some panel wipe. How can anyone use Coleman fuel at £9 a litre!
    Thanks @MG and @tankie
Just waiting on mantles and mica from the USA.
Pressure has held up for 24 hours so just the generator is a point of doubt now!
    Cheers Nick

No wonder you were looking for alternatives to Coleman fuel!

By my calculations that's AUD$14.50 per litre.

I just bought 20 litres of "Shellite" (Recosol 55) - which is the same as Coleman fuel - for AUD$4.55 a litre.

Looks like naphtha "panel wipe" is your best bet.

    Cheers

Take a holiday in Amsterdam or thereabouts and spend a day hunting the Supermarkets. In the cleaning aisle some of them sell Wasbensine for about €1.40 a litre. Just don't tell the train or ferry people what you are carrying. They seem to think the stuff is volatile for some reason.
I have several times hauled back around 40 litres. You might enjoy the trip as well. The Netherlands is full of nice folk who speak pretty good English and the coffee is to die for. ::Neil::

Methanol is alcohol (or spirit). It is not a substitute for gasoline (petrol; benzine).

In Canada and the US Coleman fuel is "cheap" I pay $20 CAD for 4 l ($5/l) which is double what is was in the 1990s.

The thing with Coleman fuel (a.k.a. naphtha; white gas) is it is pure gasoline, no additives so it burns much cleaner than unleaded and without you breathing those toxic additives. The other benefit is that the generator won't get clogged on you.
