This is a 100 cp kerosene lantern which because it has the EG logo was probably made after WW2 but before 1952 by either Ehrich & Graetz Aktiengesellschaft. Berlin Germany or Graetz Kommandit Gesellschaft Westigerstrasse 172, Altena, West Falen.
These lanterns are really neat. My little baby has a small tag pointing up from the preheating cup. It looks original, but you never know. Is it possible that there has been an asbestos string, or similar, arranged on it for the igniting of the mantle the last seconds? The larger Petromax often has some kind of device for this, like a little tube coming up from the cup. Another thing. You said; "...because it has the EG logo was probably made after WW2 but before 1952...". My Little Baby was made in the beginning of the war, but still has the EG logo that to me looks exactly the same as on your lantern. That is, if the scrawl at the bottom of many Petromax' can be considered as an adequate dating method. (My little baby has 5 40 scratched underneath.)
Ah yes well what I meant was that with the rest of it looking like a mid 1950s lantern with that plastic control it would not be pre WW2 but had to be before 1952 when the logo changed to a G without the E. I have seen spirit cups with that tag before. I doubt they had asbestos around them. I think it is merely an attempt to direct the flame towards the mantle. It sort of works as well.
Ah, that sounds reasonable. I have'nt lighted this one because of some minor stress cracks in the bottom plate, but I must try to put some meths in the cup and see how the flame forms.
The Optimus 100s and Radius 101s come with this tag on the spirit cup. They are direct copies of the Petromax, so I assume the 900 should also have it.
