Reproduction VL1s

I found this page, looks like someone is making reproduction VL1s. I quite like the half height one.

Tilley – Kite Lamp

 

I am not really a big fan of repro lamps because I think they will tend to devalue the real thing. Malcolm West made two and said he woiuld never make another because of the amount of work involved and to do it as a commercial venture would mean a cost of more than an original. One is made of red polythene with a stainless steel cylinder capped both ends in brass and I have that one here. The other was an aluminium vase painted black with a stainless tank and that one is I believe in Northern Ireland. In the case of these Taiwanese repros I suppose the vases will lack the Bretby markings and I hope the tanks are also dinstinguishable in some way. ::Neil::

 

There's a jacobean stand on there as well. Gotta be careful these days.
