    Hi,

2 BR 49's but different Founts.

The 1st from what I can decipher is a type 2c Dated September '57. Tilley England with the " Owl " in the middle on front. Female pump thread.

The 2nd No Standard Tilley date but " 1570 " & large " Made In England " on base. You will notice that this one has a smaller base ring. Tilley England with the " Owl " in the middle on front. Female pump thread.

    No 1.

    No 2.

Bearing in mind I am going off an old PLC. Publication 2, 2001

Collin, from what I can see in #1, the lantern had 2 spindles, one to supply preheating fluid to the preheater - am I correct on this? Can the preheater cup still be raised :?:

    Interesting.

    Hi,

Both BR's are the same, bad photo perhaps.

Not to worry, have solved the problem. On closer inspection No 2 is a type 2d

Any thoughts on the date "1570"

    Colin

Could it be a 157 then the letter 'O'?

Nils is right they did use a zero at the end although I only recall it being with a "A"

The change date from 2c to 2d was about September 1957. Both are marked with the owl logo but the earlier tank has a groove around the base flange and the later one does not. The Sep 57 tank is the first time Tilley inserted the base plate the "Wrong" way so these and all subsequent tanks are prone to dish down. ::Neil::
