this last Saturday I went on a trip to Nazareth old market. The Nazareth Market is the heart of the old city of Nazareth. It's a traditional bazaars like and it offers a unique atmosphere. There are small shops, coffee houses, local food counters and religious attractions. At weekends, the market becomes a bigger attraction and hosts many residents of the Galilee , both Jews and Arabs. Hidden among the shops and lanes you find old mansions, small plazas, churches, monasteries and schools. and one thing I looked for specifically a stove/lantern repair man yes you heard me a stove/lantern repair man! well we asked around and going through the maze of alleyways we found him. his name is Nadaf and he owns a fully operational stove and lanterns sales and repair shop. he is also a very qualified metal worker. we spend some time talking and he is a very nice man, bought some stuff from him and promised to be back. on one side on the ally he has his work bench and on the other the parts storage packed and I mean PACKED!! with parts for stoves, lanterns, blow torches and wick stoves most of the interest goes to primus fixed legs type of stoves, round wick stoves and petromax type lanterns. I know where to get my parts next time. this was a great experience of a disappearing occupation. BTW all the lanterns you see hanging in the background are fixed items waiting for their owners. in his shop you can buy new stoves lanterns and old refurbished items. here are some pics: The advertisement/sign for the shop Nadaf at his workbench The storage me and Nadaf
that had to be a good visit! His bench has about as much free space as mine. Bet he could write a repair/collecting guide! lots of eye catchers in there too. The white tray on the back wall has some big roarers! Thanks Doron.
Hello Doron, congratulations on finding this fellow! I hope that you keep in touch with him. It's great to have insights into other folk's cultures. Jeff.
