Do I need to be a subscriber to start a conversation with a member? I checked the help and FAQ but didn't see anything there.
Actually no. As a registered member you should be able to start a conversation with any other member. But there might be some problem with your profile. I've seen this flaw before. Sometimes the only way to send PM's when this happen is to search the members name by clicking on the tab "Member" in the menu. Then type the members name in the "Find Member"- box in the top right corner: Once you've found the member in question, you might be able to contact him or her by clicking the text saying "Start a conversation": It's not certain it will work when the fault seen with your login is present, but it might be worth trying.
Thanks WimVe :-) I've been collecting classic stoves, both petrol and paraffin for years but only just started with pressure lanterns very recently. So far I have only 2 Tilley lamps which I got very cheap indeed and although they are fine, they have a kind of 'budget' feel to them! Living in the Highlands of Scotland my lamps will get used as we have usually have a few power cuts each winter. The photo isn't very good, but here are my two Tilleys up and running for the first time. The pump washers need replacing but once that's done they will make a useful contribution to the winter evenings.
Ah, you've noticed already! The Tilley X246B - no corner left uncut! Still, not as cheap-feeling and clanky as some lanterns I could name... BTW, your photograph looks OK to me and welcome to the forums...
Supposedly someone is sending me an MOD spec Bialaddin Vapalux without the glass... for free! That should keep me out of mischief for a while!
Welcome to CPL. The only requirement for registered members to send private messages is to have a post count of 1+.
...yes, I collect stoves too :-( I feel like someone at an Alcoholics Paraffin Anonymous meeting: "Hi everyone, my name is Colin and I have a problem." "Hi Colin, we're all here for you, keep going." "Well, it all started when my friend had an Optimus 111. We used to go camping but I couldn't afford one like his... I wanted that stove so much...." "Keep going, brother..." "Well... I bought myself a cheap Korean copy... I thought it would be enough but it just wasn't the same." "You're doing so well, Colin, you can do this..." "Well, I .... I couldn't help myself... I bought an Optimus 1S, then a Burmos - I forget which one... and a Monitor, and a Coleman 533 and a Chinese Petrol stove and an Army No7... I just can't stop!" "You're among friends now, you can do this... let it go." "Well, recently I saw a Primus 744 and bought that too... it doesn't even work for goodness sake, and it's not really a stove but I just couldn't help myself. Then... Oh God.... then I discovered Pressure Lanterns. I didn't mean to... but someone offered me two Tilley X246Bs. They looked so different and they were going cheap... really cheap and my wife wasn't around so.... I bought those too and now someone's sending me another lantern... I'm not even sure what it is but I don't care, I can't stop!" ..... to be continued.....
Hi Colin WimVe was shocked that you mentioned stoves. WimVe lives on the 'darkside' and does not realise that the 'stovie' side is full of wonderful dialogue and fun. Don't end up like my friend David whose eyes turn zombie-like at the mention of a Tilley black VL1.
A Tilley black VL1...? Now all I can think of is Darth Vader in lamp form! Actually I just had a look at a VL1... they are very beautiful, love the elegant base!
G’day Colin, I feel your pain. The problem is imbalance in your life and it needs to be fixed. For every stove you have you need to balance with a lantern or a lamp. Once you reach equilibrium you will be at peace. It’s maintaining a state of balance that’s the hard part.
