Just thought i'd make an entrance here with a pic of my two favorite Aussie lanterns in my collection. I have only a small collection being a few more Handi's, one is setup to burn Shellite which burns VERY nicely, another two older style Austramax, a few Coleman's and a Veritas 350. I've got a few that I am yet to fettle. Looks like this is the best place to come for sharing pics and any info required. Thanks for having me. Cheers
G'day Steve and welcome to CPL. Just wondering if there are any markings on the Handi box that identify when it was made / sold? Well you won't get any encouragement to increase the size of your collection here!
It had this little slip inside the box: It came with a few original Handi Mantles as well, these are a very rare find:
Awesome to see an old Handi made it to the USA. They are a tough old lantern & will last forever and ever with a little TLC from time to time
@Steve Armstrong G'day Steve, that little slip of paper is fantastic . There is very little information available to connect a date with the variations made. Now, it would be really good if you started a new post of that lantern in the reference gallery with the date and detailed photos of the construction so we can compare with other undated lanterns. Nice to have the mantles also.
G'day Steve, Nice lanterns you have there... Also nice to see someone from Rocky on here, I am from there originally but have been in the US many years now... Scott C.
Thanks guys for all the replies. I will endeavour to post up more info on my Handi's as soon as I have a bit more time on my side. I've been pulled away from the lantern's a bit lately due to a sudden family illness but will be back soon. Really keen on trying my hand at nickel plating an old well-used Handi I have here very soon. Will post up the results. Cheers
G'day @Konabill nice looking lantern with that tantalising dated paperwork. Is the flame spreader/nozzle a separate piece and screwed onto a cast brass mixing tube or is the earlier all one piece version?
