G’day, Here is my recently fettled Kero-Pet lantern with a grey hood. This lantern is fitted with a jet and a steel spring only within the generator for running on kerosene (no brass gauze). The name plate is all brass with red background. The attachments for the tripod style burner frame to the base plate are a flared fitting and not removable. The flame spreader is a separate piece fitted with a pressed metal screen and screwed onto the cast brass mixing tube. The frame has no stamp marks Note on the shutoff, although the shaft is threaded and screwed into a brass nut moulded into the Bakelite knob it is also pinned. If you had to replace the gland packing it would make it difficult. The gland packing is fibre washers. The base plate is nickel plated steel and collar is painted steel. Both were treated for rust with rust converter and then painted aluminium high temp paint. The globe is not branded but shows sign of age. So I believe it is original.
Back in working order. I used a Coleman 21 mantle during the test firing. The lantern is bright but there is a very audible pulsing noise with the control cock fully open. It was not so obvious visually. The pulse was reduced by backing off with the shutoff control cock setting. This was also a characteristic of the previous Handi lantern I have.

On mine the thread goes further up and the brass collar simply screws off allowing the fibre washers to be changed. Thanks for the pics showing how this particular mantle works with a Handi.
Following up on mantle choice, some people won't use Coleman mantles in a Handi because of the fine weave. Old style Chinese made Butterfly mantles are thought better, Aussie 'S2' gas mantles are also OK.
Thanks @kero-scene for the information. I'll have to check the shaft, thread and collar next time I have them apart. I have tried Anchor mantles and found the Coleman better but haven't tried Butterfly. I have some 'S2' mantles so will give them a try. I also have some Peerless 22A mantles on order to see how they perform when they arrive.
