I am considering doing a modest weekend gathering in the Ballarat area some time in October or November this year. >>Any interest ?? << (I was thinking about a theme of setting a 'record' for number of FL6's and above running and later other gatherings can beat that record)
I have been getting a pretty good response so I am setting a date for the night of Saturday, November 25. All are welcome. It will be mainly a camping situation though there is a largish hay shed with a big open fire and hot water. Bring what ever you think is interesting wether it be Tilley or not, Australian or not. I have heard or a gathering in the past boasting 15 FL6's running. I think we can beat that .. so long as you bring yours The farm is 30 acres and is at Staffordshire Reef which is half an hour from Ballarat. As I said all are welcome so let others know, CPL members or not. I will post more detailed directions later.
Apparently there is at least one collector in the UK who can manage that on his own... He'd like to bring them to your gathering but the date isn't a good one for him...
Now a bit over 3 weeks to go. For confirmations please either post here (private message if you wish) or to treefellerhere@gmail.com Thanks.
I can't make it I'm afraid but have decided to celebrate my Mum's 94th Birthday on 25th November by holding a record breaking light up of Tilley FSs here in Aberdeenshire. All welcome to come along with their FS, might even throw in a wee dram!
I'd love to come Jean, but if owning an FS1-4 is a pre-requisite I think you'll be partying on your own!
@Anthony I should be there... just one more inconvenient conflict to resolve so that I can make it. Tony
Great Kerry, very glad to hear. Looks like there are going to lots of collectors coming from 3 states so far. PS. Every one is "invited". Please don't wait for individual invitations. The more there the better for every one. And please bring whatever you think will interest others. Lamps or stoves, wick or not.
Directions to Ballarat/Staffordshire Reef gathering. Starting at the corner of Glenelg Hwy and Midland Hwy, Ballarat. (Woolworths), head west towards Hamilton for about 16km to Smythesdale. On the other side of Smythesdale, turn left into Browns Rd (becomes Staffordshire Reef Rd). Down Browns Rd for about 13km, turn left into Grandmas Rd, then immediate right into Speedwell Dam Rd. Go to end of road. Ignore the sign on the gate, just keep going. Through the gate at the left just past the house. I should mention there is no phone reception down the bottom of the hill. Up at the gate is almost always OK. Vodaphone and similar would have long gone.
If any one does take a wrong turn you can ring a friend of mine,Rowan who lives a few minutes away on 0438 784 807.
@Digout Things are looking good... a fairly big pile of FL6s plus other interesting stuff. I’m taking my camera so there will be evidence of what you are missing out on. I might take over the Montgomery Ward... Cheers Tony
@ROBBO55 Have a safe trip, Martin. I’ve driven the Hume Highway so many times I think I could do it with my eyes shut (except for the trucks and bad drivers). Cheers Tony
