Hello fellow lampies ! Found me this lovely lantern recently, cleaned up real nice ! I believe this one to be manufactured in the late fifties or the early sixties. It's a good runner ! Best regards Fred
Thank you for the nice comments guys. Yes this one is in good condition,no dents in the fount whatsoever, but the vent i had to straighten out as it was leaning to one side due to a couple of bent legs, and the fount was clogged up with old kerosene residue, i poured in some thinner in there for some days and out come something that reminded me of an old engine oil change :-) The NRV was stuck and i had to remove it and refurbish it before i could pressure test the lantern. The Vaporizer has an imprint on it saying what i think is : Petro Valo ( hard to see clear ) I do not know if this vaporizer was used by Hovik or if it is a change out at a later stage. Frederik
Do you know anything of the history of the lantern? Petro Valo made spares for quite a few different brands of lamps that were found in Finland (has anyone ever seen a Petro Valo catalogue?). I have never heard of these parts being fitted from new.
I'd forgotten that list. If that is only a selection of what they made, then why didn't they make a complete lantern (or maybe they did?). I'm guessing that Petro Valo parts were only meant for local consumption, but maybe some did cross the borders to Sweden and Norway.
