Hi, Please can someone tell me which washer I need to replace the washer inside the jet cleaner knob - inside the brass nut that screws onto the spindle? I ordered the deluxe washer and seal kit in a nice little box from the Fettlebox and fitted the Jet Cleaner Gland Seal washer V28. I fired it up tonight and it is leaking from the nut so was wondering if I have fitted the wrong washer?
Try to tighten the nut slightly. It is also good to make sure the spindle is clean and smooth where the o-ring seals against it.
Will try again tonight. I just did the nut hand tight as I didn't want to over tighten it and damage it.
Normally, if something is knurled then hand-tight should be sufficient to make the seal. If it still leaks, then there's probably something else amiss. Sometimes though, a little bit of extra turning is effective. If you do nip it up a bit, make sure you use some sort of padding between the tool and the gland nut to prevent damage. Flats or a hex-head would suggest tightening with a spanner is appropriate...
Whatever its part number, it's the smallest one in the seals kit and should fit tightly on the jet cleaner spindle and sit tightly within the gland nut. Ross at The Fettlebox will know when he gets over his power-cut and he can see properly again after using his 500cp Petromax in the house...
What David says is true. Friends an i lived on narrow boats an barges for 30 yrs, using tilleys a bialladins. We found hand tightness was rarely sufficient in that area, we always used pliers on it, just nipping up enough so u could still turn knob with fingers. Vapourisers could be done up finger tight, they didn't leak.
Yes, I'm quite pleased with how it turned up but I did nothing more than use autosol and wire wool on it. Bit of a soft spot for the 300x - shame it was a present for someone!
