Aladdin 1AX, in the box with instructions, for all intent purposes same as the 1A.

The only difference that I can ascertain is that this came with the tools etc and Mica.

Also have a 1A in the box with instructions, in comparing the 2 Instructions the 1A has the " Tools provided " crossed out where as the the 1AX has not.

Apparently lamps in Europe when they came with the mica it was sometimes designated with a ???X in the Model Number.

I'm sure someone can add to this theory?

That's a good question about the 'X'. I would have thought tools would have been standard when buying a new lantern, but the mica could be a good guess.

I thought the nickel version was being made in the 1950s. Does anyone have any information when the change occured from the painted version to the nickel plated version?

One of the problems with Aladdin in Australia is that there is very little information as you know. If it is out there it is not being made public.

That's pretty much the same situation for all the Australian manufacturers from the 40s on. They must have made catalogues, but they obviously havn't survived.

I've just seen an advertisement from 1954 that appears to depict a chrome fount. Can't be sure, but it looks like it.
