The number of new posts have dwindled in the last few days and I m worried! I used to log in twice or more a daycare NB do there would always be something new to look at or an interesting discussion about a lamp related topic but recently it's been really quiet and I'm missing it. Have lanterns suddenly become illegal and no-one told me? I need lamp related things to read and look at or I get twitchy! C'mon everyone!
The lamping bug has bitten deeply again! The last auction house in Shetland closed down several months ago, so that lamp source has dried up, therefor I have not had any new lamps to post about. Hopefully lamp drought will end!
Have to stick with it. The weather is bad. I have spent money I didn't mean to spend on more bits for my stupid X246B from 1964. The 1st year of production. £15 to buy it, parts since to make it run reliably I hate to think. Each day I think - do I want to fettle it today- or? The new bits sit in the house. It sits in the shed.. It needs some alignment of the planets.... When time is right it will happen. Most likely it will scrap more bits and I will be back to square one.... Ho Hum.
I'm sure the number of posts will increase during the next month. I think many members are busy with work and are broke after the hols.
Hmmmmmmmm, very strange. You will rarely hear from me on CPL, but I do read all new posts every day. My impression is that the number of daily posts has increased. I have noted this because it has taken me longer and longer to read them. Does anyone have actual data?
I’ve been a bit quiet myself. However the lamp bug has been chomping on me big time. Soon I’ll be posting more fettled lamps, just gotta get retirement settled first. Cheers
Hope you have better luck than I did, granted, mine was only semi-retirement, but even so, I'm busier now than when I was full time Must say (regarding CPL being quiet) I'm surprised not to hear/read of another stunner from Conny by now, is he on an extended vacation
Jeff, I will now have to find some auctioneers close to Fort William or Mallaig... maybe Oban as well.
hey i am here and as long as i am alive i will be into lanterns, stoves, lamps and other gpas, i am just very bad at typing so i look and fettle more than i type but i am here.
Hello Colin, there are many more options for folk on the UK., mainland, so hopefully you will find some lamps to fettle.
Social media seems to have done for most of the car forums i used to frequent, paying membership fees always helps to keep things running well, long may CPL last.
Hello. A Canadian boy here enjoys this site. Keep up the chatter/photo's! Your lantern's across the pond are wonderful to view. Thank You- Cameo from Southern Ontario Canada
A confluence has occurred. The weather is good. Mantles from @phaedrus42 were in stock. An X246 burner from Julian DS arrived recently. There was a NOS 606 vapouriser - Dunmurray one, still in greasy paper. I had a tank full of spiders but that was easily cured. There is a Blue Moon Tonight... It seemed the time. I'm pleased with the result - so bright it was hard to photograph. Even with flash - it is winning. I hope it will run like this for a bit longer than previous attempts. It has had a huge appetite for new bits. Date 11/64 - an early one for X246B
Hey everyone, the CPL post rate perked up again- maybe it was my stupid internet after all? We live in such a remote area that the internet is delivered via a satellite link and sometimes a bird sits on the dish and knocks it out of alignment... or a storm does the same thing. That's not a joke, large birds like eagles and falcons actually do mess with the satellite dishes and a guy has to drive round the loch and scramble up the hillside to put it straight again. Oh the joys of living in a remote area. On the plus side it makes power-cuts much more likely!
Well never mind, whatever it was it made me go and do something which had been waiting for a long time. I'm really glad I did. It turns out I was a day early for all the moon stuff. Apparently that is today - well I saw a really big orange moon rise today. I hope you all get something interesting too - some of you will even see even an eclipse. Not so lucky here. Here's another picture of the X246B firing up. Poor old phone camera just could not cope with it!
@longilily - I´m not on an extended vacation, but on a permanent leave, as I retired two years ago . You can still see my latest "stunner" in the "New Gallery Posts" section, put there on my birthday 18th of January. I still have some restorations in me, but not as frequent as maybe before. Hope to see more intersting lamps and topics coming year. Cheers /Conny
