I was given an old 246A a little while ago but the state of the frame put me off doing anything much with it. I don't think there's any chrome left at all, just a brown crust. So what are my options? I've looked for a clean replacement but the only one I found was way too expensive and probably more than the lamp is worth.

So, all I can think of it to spray it... maybe silver? Black? Brass colour?

Is there something else that I haven't thought of? It already needs a new globe which will cost at least £12 and I don't fancy throwing too much money at it as it's really not terribly unique.

Painting silver is a good option or you could remove and treat the rust then polish the bare steel.

Yep, silver. On mine, I remove all the rust, give it a very light dusting of cold galve spray paint (in a pressure pac spray ) and then hit it with high temp silver spray. The type I use needs curing in my wife’s oven for a hour or so. Works quite well.

Thanks guys. Silver spray it is then. It won't look completely original but it'll be OK.

That's come out well, Stuart. :D

From-time-to-time Lidl have similar metallic aerosols for a very reasonable price - I may even have bought one but never got round to using it. I'll definitely give it a go now...

Think that was a Lidl one if memory serves.

Rusoleum Rattlecans Rule! By far the best quality spray paint in a can that I have used, and the best spray nozzle too.
