I have to confess that I was never a fan of the Bialaddin 315 / Vapalus 320 style lanterns - they never really appealed to me, but sometimes things turn up for such little money that you just can't help yourself, so here I am with my first Bialaddin 315.

It's in nice condition and only needed one washer to cure a leak caused by a piece of rubber so thin and so hard it looked more like plastic and it had a split right through it! Once that was sorted out, I fitted a Peerless mantle, primed it and now she's shining brightly again!

It's quite beguiling to look at and the build quality feels so good - the enamelling on the hood is really thick and I can live with the heat cracks on the top, they're a sign that it's been well used. Oh, and the flip-up pre-heater cup is so cute, I could play with that all day!

The first photo is the sellers and is how it came to me, the other two are in use in my living room as I type. I don't feel like I need to do anything with it particularly as it just works, but I think this is it now, this will be my last lantern purchase apart from fettling bits and pieces.

    The last one.

    Positively.

    No more.

I have all the lanterns I want or need now.

    Honestly!

Yes Colin be strong, you can do it!

But don't go to any auctions as some table and wall lamps are extremely tempting!

My friend couldn't understand why i liked Paraffinalia at first but now he's had two Tilleys off me and keeps hinting he wants one of my bowl fires haha

Bialaddin are for me wonderful lamps. I love the brass, heaviness and simplicity of them. Still battling to get a nice 315 but eventually I will get some..

Having fixed one leak, another surfaced as soon as I shut it down. It was coming from the jet cleaning control so I changed the seal but didn't have time to check it. That will be tonight's task.

Wow, Phil... that looks like the twin sister of mine only the paintwork is quite a bit better. Actually, I wonder how many eBay battles we end up fighting with each other without realising? I suspect quite a lot!

You got the colour spot on by the looks. Mine isn't too bad so I'm leaving is as it is so the transfer is still visible.

Oops I read your title “my last acquisition” as your final procurement ........ not as “your latest acquisition”. :a
Had me going there ....... hate to think you found a cure for the lamp bug.
    Nice lamp by the way.
Keep the faith and keep acquiring.

Well... I keep looking in all the good places and if I see something I won't be able to resist and as long as I keep the prices below a certain level, 'er indoors' seems happy enough.

Oddly, there seems to be a distinct lack of affordable lanterns just now, although I'm sure this will change.

Yeah, well.... since I posted this I've acquired:

2 x Bialaddin 300Xs because they were cheap and looked lonely
1 x Tilley X246A because someone gave me one for free
1 x Tilley X246 straight leg because I fettled a friend's and HAD to have one of my own!
1 x Coleman 220 (a 220K I think) because it kept whispering 'buy me' - and it was cheap

    I also fettled a Coleman 214 and a Tilley X246 for a friend.

So I have to admit... the fever is still strong!

I’m in high fever with the lamp bug. Just acquired some Colemans, 242B and 249 Scout to fettle. Don’t you just know it, a Coleman 220J whispered to me, and well, I bought that too.
Winter is coming on here in Aus, so I’m getting projects ready.

I thought I would be ok with 2 or 3 but the bug bit hard and now its more like 43.....plus another 8 that are being serviced for scout groups...plus a few more "Dump rescue lamps and stoves" which are being fettled and given to scout groups...
I class myself now as a confirmed Paraffinologist Nut !

I've bought four Tilleys in less than 3 weeks - oh dear! prior to that I just had my two trusty 246B's for years, which I've now bought three more of, plus a straight leg. Must be the effect of this forum...:shock::?=;:D
