Here are some photo's of an Hasag 351L. The lantern cleaned up well, and holds good pressure, but I have not test it to light.'
According to some of its features, such as e.g. the indexed pricker dial, small diameter of the preheater, slim type of vaporizer (without "mushroom" head), ceramic burner, missing globe cage lid and air release screw that model should definitely be a product of the GDR manufactured after WW2, although labelled on the tank with "HASAG". The "1Q" GDR top level quality mark can also be found on its top cap nut. These lanterns are solidly built and reliable to my experience. They rum on paraffin and petrol and are very silent. Definitely a good item for any pressure lamp collection.
Hi Johan, It's a very good lantern Martin you're right, just DDR after the WW II You have a nice collection Very sincerely Best regards, Titoo
Difficult to say when they were made because they have no stampings. Manufacturing in Leipzig at VEB Leuchtenbau Leipzig / Leipziger Werke VEB Metallwaren (MEWA) started somewhen after 1949 (after some early unsuccessful attempts after 1945) and stopped in 1962. After that all tools were brought to VEB Sturmlaternenwerk Beierfeld and production must have ended there somewhen in the late 1970's or early 1980's My guess would be that the lantern you have was made after 1962 in the Beierfeld factory. That because the straight slim type vaporizer, the small diameter preheater and the indexed type of pricker dial were also used at the BAT 270 lanterns. But unfortunately that cannot be proven for sure. BR, Martin
Hello Johan, I just found exactly this model in my grandpa’s attic and I got a little enthusiastic about it. Could you please give some advice about how to clean it properly ( it is in about the same state as yours was) and maybe how to test and operate it? Thank you!
