Hi People I'm new here and new to Tilley lamps, I bought one today to see how I get on with it and to look at how they are maintained and if I enjoy it I'm going to start collecting them, anyway I have my first question so here goes the lamp I have just bought has stamped on the bottom 272XB and on the tank front it says Tilley United Kingdom, I've looked around to try and find some information about this model but without success so I'm hoping one of you pro's can help me.

    Cheers ;)

    Hi, welcome to the forum!
To get a quick and correct answer, the best advice (as a non-expert ;) ) I can give you is to post a photo of your lantern. That is by far the easiest and surest way to identify your lantern.

    Best regards,

    Wim

Hello and welcome aboard, the 272 stands for February 1972 and is the date of manufacture, cheers.

Not so common these so a nice find. Model is X246B which is common enough but this is the version with a chrome plated hood. I think I have seen maybe half a dozen of these. I know the hood looks like clean steel but when you find one in its box the box label is over stamped "Plated Hood". I don't know how many were made or for what period but so few turn up there cannot have been many. ::Neil::
