Hi all Caution: long lamp story to follow... So I had a plan to get an oil lamp to burn citronella this Summer to keep the mosquitos off. Instead of some Chinese tatt, I thought a nice antique could be repurposed. Went with my wife and she was drawn to an old Optimus 939. Not really what I was looking for but who's to argue with a lady I didn't know how to light it so turned to the internet and found this site. Had a bit of a giggle at first. But the more I looked the more interesting it all became.
After looking at the forum for a week I realised I needed a table lamp. Searched a dozen shops around Tallinn and the stumbled on this beauty.
A rare gem indeed, Mark! I have one without the globe and hood, but not in nearly as fine condition. Looks like Estonia is a good hunting ground for rare lamps.
Hello Mark and welcome. What a way to start a collection, an as new Optimus 930 and an Optimus252A which has cleaned up wonderfully. Be very careful of the glass on the 252A, they've been obsolete for a long time. There's no escape now, you're hooked ! Henry.
Thanks fpr the advice Henry. I will look for a cheap globe to use when it is running. Keep the original for display only. Hooked? Maybe... I did notice a dented Hipolito lurking around
Welcome @Mark Robert Coverdale to CPL. You have done a very nice job cleaning up those two beauties. Congratulations
I gave up that idea Graham. Bought a chinese thing for that. Found some other great lamps when I knew what to look for. Starting new thread for an optimus 253 and a nice old 300
