After discussions with some members on the Coleman Collectors Forum, we have started a census of 237 lanterns in the form of an online spreadsheet detailing the differences and characteristics of these lanterns made at various times and locations.

The goal is to get a statistically significant sampling of lanterns as a resource for researchers to analyze and be able to say with reasonable accuracy when and where a lantern or part thereof was manufactured and to trace how the model changed over time. The content is freely available to anyone in the lamp collectors community.

If you have one or more 237's you are most welcome to fill in the spreadsheet on Google Sheets here:

    coleman-237-features-2018-02-15.xls

It is an evolving resource and suggestions on improving it will be appreciated.

    Thanks for looking,
    -Phil

Hi Phil, would there also be some interest in doing the same with the 249/scout model?

@jacov, I'm sure there would be; for various other models too and of course not only limited to Coleman. Any such survey relies on the interest and participation of many collectors. Indications so far are that it will probably not happen overnight.

Every single 237 is important to this survey, not only the rare or special ones.

That may be a tall order, although I would not really be surprised if the members here collectively have those parts for you.
More likely 236 parts from guys in the US or Canada
