    Hi,

I've an opportunity to buy this Tilley lamp but I can't place the model as the cage looks all wrong to me. Is this something that has been cobbled together or is it an actual model?!

    Thanks a lot

Not an actual model. It looks like it's a cobbled-together 'marriage' between a heater tank and lantern upperparts.

I fear an impending divorce... =;

Someone else will be able to confirm this but it looks all wrong to me. Seems to be an X246b frame welded to a square plate which has been fitted to a Tilley table lamp fount... and it's got no globe, even and that's assuming a 171 would even fit which looks doubtful considering the state of the cage. I wouldn't touch it with a barge-pole!

If it is very cheap, it may be worth getting for the parts. Decent fount, control cock, pump...

The fount looks to be as David said, from a R1 heater, you can see the threaded insert, still has the screw in it, and the corresponding hole in the rim of the fount to take the reflector and handle assembly. The rest all cobbled from perhaps what as left of a X246B frame and burner cap.
    Interesting concept though. :-k

The wealth of knowledge on this forum is great! Thanks to all for your clarification and confirmed what I thought! I can get it for under £20 so there is a case for buying it for parts as stated above but I may just give it a miss!

The cage looks completely home made, the bail arm attachments are not Tilley and there are signs of poor soldering around the cage top. Definitely a “bitsa” ...... as said good for parts

In my opinion, it would be useful for parts.

BAFE8019-A2D6-4334-A4F3-30B797772E38.jpeg Hey ...... if the price was right I’d buy it to make a Frankie ..... which I’d did some time ago and it’s my favourite work about lantern.
