What type of paint should be used to paint the tank? Enamel maybe? If it's lacquered (which it will be) does it matter? Would a slight paraffin spill damage the paint? I'm wanting to paint a PL53 crimson red (please don't hate me for wanting a non-tilley colour ) The top half of the lamp was missing anyway so not original and the wife suggested that shade to match the rest of the sitting-room.
I generally use car aerosol cans from Halfords. If there isn't a suitable colour, I have a colour-matched can made up at a local motor factors...
I like Hammerite smooth stoved on at about 160c for half an hour. I think they do a red. Using a domestic oven for stoving painted lamp parts is best done when the Management is otherwise engaged preferably some miles away. ::Neil::
Thanks guys. Much appreciated. I'm good at doing things I shouldn't when the management is out. My last trick was to test how good the dishwasher was at cleaning Weber carburetors. Turns out pretty good
