Can some one please advise me if you use a undercoat/primer with plasti kote fast enamel (brass) I have looked on the manufacture Web site and on the side of the tin without any luck. Thanks
Andrew, That would depend on the substrate that you intend to coat with the fast enamel. Of course, a primer/undercoat is desirable in most instances. Plastikote offers a number of primers for different applications.
@Andrew Hooper I use what is called “etch primer” on brass. It can be stripped off if ever you need to. Cheers Tony
Andrew, Plastikote is my first choice paint and I have never used a primer. Just give whatever you are painting a good clean with meths and paper towels first. Gives an excellent finish on any surface.
I would always use a primer and make sure it is compatible with the top coat, I have had some bad experiences previously with cheap paints and ended up stripping the lot. I have found Halfords paint okay.
If you're coating brass, be sure its as clean as possible. No loosely adhering oxides/patina. Completely free from oil film, dust and grease including those from your fingers. There are 2 basic types of the usual etch primers. Single and '2-pack'(do not confuse with epoxy coatings). I'll prefer the 2-pack types for performance. But for convenience, just use the Plastikote etch-primer. Be sure they're compatible with the Krylon enamel that you intend to use.
