Hi, my partner and I found this little lantern and were wondering if anyone could help us to date it and give us any more info on it. Thanks, Sarah
Thank you - I saw this when I was trying to do a bit of research but I didn't see any dates? Maybe impossible to find out... thank you though for sending this through.
This will give you newspaper ads from 1944 to 1967 Trove search results for '"Handi Kero-pet"' - Digitised newspapers and more
If you could take a photo of the label on the collar (if there is one) it would help. Without checking my notes I would put it in the mid to late 50s.
Thank you - I have attached some more photos for you. Do you know if it would still work? Or if it would take much to get it working again?
If the jet cleaning pricker is in tact you should be able to get it going. A great lamp. I have one going in the back yard right now
After checking my notes, it looks like this one was made around the 1953/54 time frame. It looks to be in good condition too, so a nice find. To get it going I would replace the filler cap washer and check the jet and cleaning needle. Also check if there are any wasps nests in the air tubes.
These are great lanterns. I have two - one a user (although I'm reluctant to do so because of the non-availability of the original glass globe) and the other is an unlit example, although it's suffered from being stored badly in someone's dunny at Wollamboolie* Base or wherever... *Edit: Sorry, it was 'Wollumboola Base'...
Thank you everyone for all the info! Yes, we were pretty chuffed to find it - it was destined for the bin! We have decided not to use it and just keep it as it is - its a beautiful little lantern.
Welcome, Sarah! I can assure you that you will find it even more beautiful when it is providing light and atmosphere. Like having a beautiful computer or stereo and never turning it on.
