Hi all ... Well I recently perfomed an official Windows 10 update on my laptop .... so off
I went did it and it went in really without any difficulty .... but ...

On trying to wite an email ... I suddenly found that I could not type or insert symbols ...
especially the £ sign ...:rage: see if you can on your lappy/ desktop now ... if good all is well.
but if you cannot .. your machine has the US English keyboard secretly installed .. it is
frustrating ... ALL IS NOT LOST ... quick fix.:D/

press the Windows circle button side of alt key .. and whilst holding this down ..press
the spacebar down ..a sign will become obvious on the screen ... press arrow down to
take you from Uncle Sam to dear old Blighty ... and there done .... back to symbols and the beloved £... check for yourself .. bye for now good luck to all ... great forum this

There's no such thing as "US English" - just English, and wrong. ;) :)

Doesn't work on Windows 7 . . . thank heavens. "English spoken here" as they say on the conty nont.
There are options, but needless to say . . . .

For goodness sake, turn off updates as far as you are able! Bide your time and let others suffer the catastrophic failures first. If an update is worth anything, it's worth waiting for but if it turns out to be full of bugs you can save yourself a heap of trouble.

Never forget the wise tech commandment: 'never be an early adopter'.

Glitches do happen sometimes after updates; last year one Windows 10 update stopped the actual Windows browser from operating, but I rarely use it so I was not bothered and the next update corrected it.

I have the current Linux Zorin operating system on a laptop and UK., English is called English 1 and the American version is called English 2.

On mine, to the left of the time and date, it says ENG.
A left click on it gives options of UK/US keyboard...

Unexpected W10 update hit me today. It said it was a big one and it would take some time. It certainly did.
On first restart afterwards it still had keyboard as ENG/UK but all sorts of things behaved very strangely.

Maybe it didn't like the fact that I said NO to all the new snooping options being offered. Just not needed!

Clicking on the menu bar icons such as sound, network, security notifications etc - nothing happened.
Touch wood all has been fine after a further reboot and login.

Well there is a keyboard key combination (I fogot) that swithes between installed keyboard languages.
So is it really the update or the user ?

Could well be the update Wim. Mine has been OK for a day now.
Switching keyboards is something I have to do quite a bit - maybe you too.
I just could not type on an Azerty one! (Belgium it was I think - had to switch it to English and ignore the printed key letters)
I visit Sweden quite a bit where the written language has a generous helping of letter modifiers (accents) - no good having a UK
keyboard there either except to type English.
