Picked this 1020 up a while back date code of X so 1933. Got a new needle and jet with the help of HighlandDweller so thank you for that. Came with the ratty 6 panel mica so maybe original to it? Would be nice to find some mica panels to repair it. Did the usual fettling to get it operational. Stubborn NRV took literally months of sitting on the bench with pen oil and a heated wrench head sitting on it as well as numerous curse words thrown in for good measure but finally with a new wrench to catch whatever corner was left of the NRV it decided it would pop free. Was happy when that happened! New pip, jet, needle, pump cup and fuel fill gasket then preheat. Preheat started to die down and gave it a few pumps and away it went. Let it warm up a bit more and gave it another 20 pumps or so and it burns brightly. Guess I'll give it a good cleaning now. I like it!
I find it hard not to like the 1020. Simple and works well, though they tend to not like worn jets. It's quite likely the mica is original. They were sold with them. With the nickel tank and the mica globe it is the /3 option.
Primus must have really produced a lot of 1020s in 1933. That seems to be the most common year of the early lamps. Unfortunately it is not uncommon to have the spirit cup missing on Primus lamps. That is probably the only poor design feature of them. If someone started producing new Primus spirit cups, I'm sure they would be popular.
