We know what you're doing - sure you don't want two of them... ;)

Just need the one, the other one has gone to a better place. I picked up a useful piece of brass tube, which is only 2 3/4” so it’s a loose fit, but I figured I might be able to make something with it if I machine the top from scratch. If I can get an Al15 and some 3” tube then I’m off to a flying start.

I've just finished mine. I will post into the Fettling section some time soon.

Ooo, nice work, where did you get the 3” tube from? I can’t seem to find any on eBay. I see you went all the way and fitted the pressure tit as well, I’m not sure if I’ll be doing that or not. What are you going to do for the ring that fits the top of the vase? The flame ring off a Primus 85 is quite a close fit if some changing of the shape was done.

    3" x 18g Brass Tube 12" - 18g Brass Tube - Brass Tubes - Brass Sections - Materials / Metals

    for the 3" brass tube.

The pressure tit is a sham, I'm afraid. I spent an age fiddling around with a couple of pressure indicators - one out of an AL15 and a slightly different one out of another lamp. But eventually came to the conclusion that I just couldn't find the room. It was a case of pick any two from pump, fuel feed and pressure indicator. If you had a tight elbow immediately on the fuel feed, you might be in with a chance, but it would still be tricky setting it all up, deep down the tube. Having drilled the hole at the experimental stage, I had to fill it somehow.

Perhaps you could open one of your existing tanks and see how Tilley managed it?

I took several photos with a view to making a post on this, which ought to explain the few problems. But overall (putting aside the pressure indicator issue) it's straightforward enough.

Someone in NDT may be able to X-ray a VL1 tank...

I beginning to wish I'd taken pictures (and measurements) when I took the top off one of my VL1's to re-solder the pressure indicator to stop it leaking. I found that getting the top off was more difficult than making the repair and I'm rather reluctant to repeat the excercise.
