I love lanterns and I live in Scotland, but living in the highlands as I do, this time of year presents a problem. It doesn't even begin to get dark until 11:00 O'clock so there's no point in lighting a lantern, at least not to create light anyway. So I've decided to light one tonight anyway even though there's absolutely no need otherwise I'll get withdrawal symptoms! I chose my Bialaddin 315. It's not the brightest but it's one of my favourites.
It gets dark this time of the year!? Or atleast close to it? Lucky you. Try living in the north. It doesn't get dark at all this time of the year...
I feel your pain... but I guess the upside for us both is that we have long winter nights to burn lanterns while they soothe us with their gentle whisper.
Colin, the simple solution to your problem would be to get a nice N°5 stove or similar and use it in the evening to boil water for a cup of coffee or tea. That way you still get the smell and the lovely hissing sound of a paraffin powered device! Nice lantern by the way. Best regards, Wim
I wouldn’t worry about it not being dark outside when you have a view like that. Straight out the door into the forest with the mountains behind, nice.
I like the idea of firing up a stove to make a tea... probably my Optimus 111 or the Enders 9061D- my two absolute favourites!
