Hi! I've an interesting discussion with my friends about the Russian pressure lamps. We've seen many Russian pressure stoves and oil lamps but none pressure lantern so we wonder that are there any Russian lantern factories? Thank you. Sun
Go to this Link on BBL. There you will find another link about a Moscow Lights museum and there is a pic with Russian pressure lamps. I guess we need some Russian member on the site!
Thank you Juan! It's hard to find as it should be. Even in the small country like Thailand still have some local lantern manufacturers. Regards Sun
And rockets, and nuclear weapons, and ekranoplanes, and, and, and many other very sophisticated equipment. So, having them such a large country, the largest on the world (or is it China?), for sure they made a lot of their own pressure lamps.
Kitson sold lamps etc., to Czarist Russia, some may have survived, obviously Kitson were an English company, but I would be interested to hear if any of their products have been found in Russia. Does anyone know of a Russian lamp collector? Jeff.
Russian Pressure lighting is like fairy gold. Everybody assumes it exists but no one has ever seen any. That museum is interesting but one HASAG and two suspicously Swedish looking drop in fount lamps does not imply an active Russian Pressure lamp industry at any time. Those two look like Primus or Lux lamps but I don't recognise the burners. Russian made? Maybe, but I suspect made in some other country for the Russian market. Neil.
With a lot of imegrants from the former Soviet block (about 20% of the population here) and they brought a lot of stuff with them. Saw stoves, camping gear, tools and a lot of other stuff in the flee markets but never gas or fuel light related. Maybe someday.
I asked my russian colleague abut pressure lanterns and he asked his russian friends and his family about that stuff. No one of them know anything about pressure lanterns in russia. He lived in Siberia before he came to Germany.
About 12 months ago I sold a TL 106 to a collector in Russia, was very dubious about completing the sale but as a fellow collector I gave him the benefit of the doubt, even through in some spare parts to help him along. Asked if there were any Pressure Lanterns Made In Russia, never did get a reply, so I'm still none the wiser. But at least there is one collector. Colin
Hello John, yes, it's the same family, Arthur Kitson did work in the family business for a while, before starting his lamp business. There is Kitson information in the reference library, Jeff.
Well I have this discussed with Neil long time ago and we didn't know. Fact is that Russian devices often combine usefulness (?) with simplicity. I remember a report about a modern Russian jet fighter that had a old style bulb radio in it. At first everybody laughed about it..... till they found out that these would still working after a nuclear explosion the modern western radios would not. So why should you build or use a pressure lantern when you can use a let say matador 20 linie kerosene burner ? Which combined with a thermo generator also would give electricity ?
