Please bear with me, my first post, although I have been lurking on the site for a while and find it absorbing looking at the various lamps.

I've recently bought a Tilley floodlight which I hope to get lit up at some point.
    A few questions:-
    1. The pump handle is missing (I can make a new one) but the nut holding it on is missing too. What thread is the pump spindle? I presume it's some imperial measure.
    2. The reflector is in pretty good condition, but there's a lot of blackening at the top. What's the best way to clean this off, obviously I don't want to damage the reflector surface.
    3. I'm going to get the pump sorted, then see if the tank holds pressure before deciding what to do after that? Is this a good plan, I've got the replacement seals kit.
    4. The top hood type thing is rusted, what paint should I use on this, I'm thinking Morso Senotherm.
    5. Is the pre heater the same as other Tilley lamps (I have one of those already)?

    Many thanks in advance,
    Peter

    Welcome aboard!

The thread on the pump spindle will be an imperial size, if you have any imperial nuts lying around then you may have one which will fit.

Hot soapy water and a cloth should clean the reflector, wet newspaper cleans blackened glass globes etc., so it might also work on the reflector.

A pressure test is the best way to start a restoration.

Some type of high temperature paint will be needed.

The standard Tilley meths torch is the proper pre heating device.

You write what you want, hit the space button and Apple in their infinite wisdom change it to what they want. Only it changed it to bag that time.](*,)

You do end up with knurled nuts by the time you’ve finished fighting the machine.
