I've had this beast for a while now and never did anything with it much apart from fill it and use it now and then. It has writing on the side I have always been wary of destroying... but, the tank is rusty and I'd like to give it a new lease of life. If anyone can shed any light on what WHI 1S means I could reconsider, but if it's just be a previous owners initials I'll strip the tank and spray it. She's a good workhorse and runs very well indeed, I'd just like to clean 'er up a bit! Someone has painted it in the past and added an after-market Coleman Kerosene sticker so it's not exactly original condition.

    Any ideas?

I made the decision to respray the tank and I'm kind of glad I did. The rust was worse than I'd imagined, particularly on the underneath so having stripped and treated the bare surface, I gave it quite a few coats. The underneath isn't pretty but it won't get any worse now. I also found out that it's a 1973 model, made in Canada.

I also found loads of mushrooms today and when we got home I'd been given loads more! I need to do some serious drying asap!

The collar polished up nice and shiny. I used a combination of my buffing wheel plus Mother's Mag for the fiddly nits between and around the letters. It's dark here now so I'll post some more photos in the morning.

All it needs now is the 'Coleman Kerosene' sticker. I removed the original carefully but it's not in the best condition.

Looks good! This would not of had a “Coleman Kerosene” label, it would of just been a “Coleman”

Old Coleman Parts can ship that in an envelope for a few bucks.
