G'day all, I have no association to the listing. I saw the listing and thought I'd take the time to place it here. I think this 1951 photo of a pressure lamp being used may interest someone enough to buy it. I don't know my lanterns well enough but perhaps a Petromax? Considering that the photo is taken in Denmark, I am fairly certain that it is a Petromax and most likely an 826.
In the photo the hanging lamp looks like a Brenner 20" marine lantern. I do not have a large collection but I am fortunate to have both of these lanterns! 2 weeks ago I was given a Brenner as the owner was moving and my '56 Petromax 826 is from an antique sale. Cameo.
The wick lamp is a strange one. The winder seems to be going into the top of the fount and not the burner body.
I think I've seen that wick lamp somewhere before but my image is ambiguous. The pressure lamp in the picture certainly looks like a Petromax. Too blurry to see if there are any oblong slots on the frame collar (older design) that I'm expecting for something from 1951.
Cameo, Brenner just translates to "burner". What you refer to is a 20''' Matador or Ideal burner. Den Haan Rotterdam (DHR) still makes these today. The wick lamp shown here is of a different make. There were a number of different burner design available over the years. Can't say which one this one is. Erik
@JEFF JOHNSON Jeff, I think you are right. Typical CD Blitz type of burner and chimney on that wick hanging lamp. Big lamp, so probably a 30´´´ burner one that one. Blitz burners both central draught and side draught versions were made of all the big German lamp/burner manufacturers, since late 1800/beginning of early 1900. /Conny
Hello Conny, I e-mailed a few wick lamp collectors and one of them mentioned Blitz lamps and your scan confirms it.
Nice detective work all around on the Blitz. It is also nice to see a wick lamp gather interest, considering this is a pressure lamp site.
