Some pretty nice lamps there. A couple of wrong hoods but there are worse problems to have especially as one of the wrong ones is a brass pork pie hood and they are harder to find than the tanks. ::Neil::
Thank you Neil I had an earlier post talking about the pork pie cage and it not fitting putting that to bed for a while . as for the other hoods is it manly the colour or type ?
Thank you Martin Been picking up parts of lamps and finally last month got stuck in . apart from two bought at auction the x246 virtually as new and the wilis and bates MK1. Been lovely weather to work outside though as I am sure a few sheds have been sorted out this year . Apart from some members that cant even get in there sheds for tripping over them no names.
@Scotlamp One of the “wrong hoods” is the hood from the ‘pork pie’ X246 that is sitting on a later X246 tank and cage (second lantern from left). Cheers Tony
Yes and the other guardsman next to it has a black hood but all the gold painted 1950s X246s had a brown hood. The black hood was only used on the speculum plated versions. ::Neil::
@Mackburner That information about the brown hood on the gold 1950s X246 is something I did not know. Thank you. We Aussies mainly see the speculum X246s from that period. Cheers Tony
Yes that's right. The plated X246s here were the de lux models and cost a bit more but they were the standard lanterns for export so a lot more will turn up in Aus than they do here. For us the plated lanterns from the 1950s are almost rare or at least rather less common. ::Neil::
