Good Day I have an abundance of double tie mantles in the 100 to 300CP range, and only one Tilley that uses them. I have thirteen other single tie lanterns, one in particular is a 158 Coleman two mantle table lamp. The 158 fails to fill out two 300CP single ties, and I do not have a supply of suitable Peerless 2C-HG or similar mantles at hand. Hence the question, would it be sensible to try a set of say 150-200CP double ties, only with the bottom opening tightly tied closed? Perhaps some members have already done this and can give some feedback or tips. I do realise that I should obtain the correct mantles, but we do like improvising in Africa! Kind Regards Johan
Hi Johan, I have a 168K lamp that works well with the Cadac 100 cp double tie mantles. When I tie the bottom end, I make sure the tie is on the inside of the sock, makes it look neater. Regards Jaco
You may be able to fold the top of the mantle over before tying to the burner, shortening the length, or tie it further above the burner. I have done this with a No21 mantle on a Coleman 229
@KAB Also a good suggestion, If we look at the availability and pricing compared to the Coleman 21 and the local Cadac mantles, it makes sense to use the latter. I also find the current Coleman mantles very weak and gives poor light Jaco
