This is a 250 cp kerosene lantern. A design modification of model 242 with a different generator and simplified fuel feed tube. This one was made in Canada December 1935. It does work but has a slight leak which I have not sorted yet. The control wheel is wrong. It has been fitted with a much too small one by some previous owner. 242K is the only model of this type fitted with a small wheel as the pricker control and this feature is always a simple diagnostic for 242K. ::Neil::
Neil: Nice lantern, haven't seen a "K" model before. What is the priming pan made of? It looks like cast aluminum. Paul
Yes aluminium or some alloy of that type for sure. Rare lantens these and I just wish I could find a control wheel for it. Trouble is the correct one is unique to the model so I can't rob one from another lantern. As I don't have one I can't illustrate what it looks like and like a fool when I did see one I forgot to capture an image. We will get to see one though because for sure someone will show it here in time. ::Neil::
Hi Neil, Just noticed your query and by chance sorting out my 242/ 247 series. This is off a 242?/247. Unfortunately the 242K was missing the Valve knob so like you are looking for the correct one. I do have a 242 ? that for all purposes is a 242 K but has the wire needle control and newer pump only . This lantern has this type of Valve knob. It has a #3 jet in it so appears to meet that criteria. In any case here's the photo's This was on the inside ... a maple leaf? All lanterns are 9/35 Colin
No that is not the one. It is unique to 242K and a very rare piece. This is the only image I have showing it. Not my lamp though. ::Neil::
Hi Neil, I have been able to sight the 242 K operating instructions and the valve wheel is part No 242-653. All my k's have the same valve wheel as pictured above [ your pic ] Colin
